Jeraldine Loree Stankus, 87, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Elkins, WV on May 18, 1937, the daughter of the late Mildred and Virgil Vanscoy. She is survived by her twin sister Joyce Cain, of Fredericksburg, VA and her sister Judi Forren (Ron) of St. Albans, WV. Jerry lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jerry was a devoted wife to Bill Stankus, deceased, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised three wonderful sons. Her love and dedication to her family were the cornerstone of her life, in which she took great pride. Surviving are three sons. John and wife Theresa, their son Jonathan and great grandchildren Josie and Langston, son Joe and wife Mary Ann, their daughters Dr. Danielle Ware and husband Michael and great-granddaughter Rosemary, Ann Marie and fiancé Will Critchfield, son Steven and wife Dr. Sara Lewis-Stankus, and their children, Hannah, Leah, and Isaac, all of which brought her endless joy and smiles.
In addition to her family, Jerry had a vibrant social life, enjoying the company of many dear friends. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Teter CEOS and the Rebeka Lodge Odd Fellows (IOOF). Her passion for fashion was evident to all who knew her; In her career, she enjoyed working at Stone and Thomas and was a kindergarten aide in Upshur County. Her love for her cats was well known, and she adored her dog friends, who were constant sources of comfort and joy.
Throughout her life Jerry touched many hearts with her kindness, warmth, and generosity. Her legacy of love and care will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church beginning at 11:00am.
Jerry will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving spirit and the beautiful memories she leaves behind will forever remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry’s name to the Buckhannon Animal Shelter, 318 Mud Lick Rd, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
