Jean D. (Mick) Anderson

Jean D. (Mick) Anderson, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.

She was born June 13, 1930, in Tennerton, WV, daughter of the late Burl G. and Eileen P. Smallridge Mick. After graduating from Buckhannon Upshur High School, Class of 1948, she married Virgil E. Anderson on September 20, 1948. Although they were married in Buckhannon, they spent the first year of their marriage living in Detroit, MI.

After returning to Buckhannon, she ran Anderson Builder Supply, located beside the Colonial Theater on Main Street. After Builder Supply closed, she went to work at Samples Shoe Repair and later Garden Fresh Supermarket, followed by Moore Business Forms where she retired in 1990 after more than 21 years of service.

She enjoyed attending services at Tallmansville Baptist Church before her physical health prevented her from doing so.  A wonderful cook, she loved spending time with family, hosting family gatherings, cooking holiday dinners, and attending family reunions at  Holly River State Park.

Once her health began to decline, her daughter Dolores and son-in-law Don took extra good care of her. Shortly after her 90th birthday, she became a resident of Crestview Manor Healthcare Center in Jane Lew, WV, where she looked forward to visits from family and friends, especially enjoying visits from children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even their fur-babies.

She is survived by three children, Larry Michael Anderson and wife Mary of Buckhannon, Dolores Jean Mathew and husband Don of Weston, and David Lee Anderson and wife Diane Rubinstein of Bowie, MD; 10 grandchildren, Jason P. Mathew and wife Merrideth of Garner, NC, Ben J. Mathew and wife Crystal of Raleigh, NC, Sarah E. Butcher and husband Dusty of Mt. Clare, WV, Heather M. Valentino and husband Anthony of Buckhannon, Mariah B. Butcher and husband Eric of Buckhannon, Andrea S. Anderson and partner David Mateos of New York, NY, and Emily S. Clare, Josslynn Rice and Scott Rice, Jr. of Buckhannon, Regina Petrokovich of Buckhannon; and Ezekiel Kavaliauskas of Buckhannon; sister-in-law Pat Mick and former sister-in-law Lois Combs, both of OH; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Robert Mick.

Family will receive friends Monday, June 3, 2024, from 4 PM – 7 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park.
