Janice Lenore (Dillon) Starcher

Janice Lenore (Dillon) Starcher, 84, of French Creek, went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She passed in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loving family, and under the compassionate care of WVU Medicine Hospice.

Janice was born at her childhood home in Delphie, W.Va., on January 26, 1937, a daughter of the late James Lindell Dillon and Ruby Alice (Jarvis) Dillon.

Janice married William “Bill” Starcher on September 13, 1956, in Crown Point, IN.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by the father of her children, Bill Starcher; one daughter, Gayle Neil; one son-in-law, Lynn Fortik; one great-grandson, Jacob Hypes; four brothers: “Jimmie”, Glen, Lee Roy, and Alvin Dillon; and three sisters: Wanda Lawson, Nancy Thomas, and Ada Dillon.

Janice is survived by six children: William “Bill” Starcher Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Persinger, WV, Joan Morrison and husband, Paul, of French Creek, WV, Sharon Kay Overbaugh and husband, “Chuck”, of Persinger, WV, Diane Fortik of Troy, OH, Roma “Pete” Starcher of Columbia, MO, and Kenya Starcher and fiancé, Rob Moyer, of Las Vegas, NM. In addition to her children, she is survived by one brother, Gary Dillon of Tioga, WV; seven grandchildren: Amber, Erica, Christopher, Jennifer, Amanda, Matthew, and Jack; and two great-grandchildren: Madelyn and Declan.

One of her life’s greatest joys was serving as cook at the Friends R Fun day care at Glade Creek, WV. She graduated from Richwood High School in 1956. Janice came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at a very young age and, through her life, continued to be a seeker attending Bible based churches including the Church of God, Church of Christ, United Methodist, Baptist and Seventh Day Adventist Church along with entertaining and debating the Jehovah Witness and young Mormons who came to her door.

Friends and Family will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Following Visitation, Janice’s request for Cremation will be honored at Clutter Funeral & Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
