Janet S. Hamner

Janet S. Hamner, 74, of Rock Cave, died at her home on Friday, July 10, 2020. 

She was born on July 3, 1946, in Iowa, a daughter of the late Dale and Thelma Byers Smith. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her companion Jim Posey; two brothers-in-law:  Dave Elmore and Roscoe Peck. 

She is survived by two sons:  Sean Hamner and wife Carla of Rock Cave and Ryan Hamner and wife Lori of Buckhannon; two grandchildren:  Casey Hamner and Carter Ryan Hamner; two brothers:  Barry W. Smith and wife Linda of Winchester, Va. and Dr. Kevin L. Smith and wife Deb of Charlotte, N.C.; former husband and father of her two sons, Delmis W. Hamner of Rock Cave;  six sisters-in-law:  Samanna Peck of Rock Cave, Dorothy and husband Johnny Rice of French Creek, Linda and husband Kenny Fitzgerald of Rock Cave, Ann Elmore of French Creek, Alma McCray of French Creek, Avilda Densmore of Port St. Joe, Florida; one brother-in-law Sonny Hamner of Steubenville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet was a retired LPN and enjoyed her retirement caring for her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was a member of the Rock Cave Independent Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Rock Cave Independent Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Jessie officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to the P.E.O. Sisterhood, c/o April Cutright, Treasurer, PO Box 2002, Buckhannon, WV  26201.
