BUCKHANNON, W.Va.– West Virginia Wesleyan Athletics and Interim President Dr. James Moore announced Josh Spencer to take over as permanent head coach for the WVWC men’s soccer team on Wednesday.

“I am beyond thrilled that Josh will be leading our program in a permanent role,” Moore said. “Josh has shown great character, vision, sensitivity, and leadership and has proven that he is well-equipped to carry on the great work of Coach Donaldson and the work of Derrick Leeson, George Klebez, and all the other stewards of this program. We look forward to Josh creating his vision for the future while also carrying on the rich tradition of men’s soccer at Wesleyan.”

The decision comes just nine days after Spencer was given the interim head coach tag.

“Being entrusted as the next head coach of this program is something that both excites me and humbles me,” Spencer said. “This program is one that wins and has won throughout its history. Having played for the college, I know what it means to play for Wesleyan, and I am driven to continue to add to this team’s illustrious history. I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. James Moore and Randy Tenney for their support and belief in me to take on this role.”

“Josh is an outstanding young coach and has served the team in an elite capacity this past season in Coach Donaldson’s absence,” said Director of Athletics Randy Tenney. “He has our total support moving forward as the head coach of our men’s soccer program.”

Spencer played for the Bobcats from 2014-to-2017 and captained the 2017 Mountain East Conference championship team.
