HomeOwnership Center to host Upshur County Financial Literacy Tour to celebrate NeighborWorks Week, Homeownership Month

HOC’s Loan Originator Chris Vance and Home Ownership Advisor Jami Carpenter hold a NeighborWorks Week banner from 2021.

ELKINS, WV — HomeOwnership Center, Inc. (HOC) will celebrate Homeownership Month and National NeighborWorks Week by hosting an Upshur County Financial Literacy Tour throughout the first week of June.

During NeighborWorks Week (June 1-8), HOC and other NeighborWorks network organizations across the country celebrate the achievements of communities and how NeighborWorks and residents work together to empower people to create meaningful change in their lives.

This year, HOC’s Home Ownership Advisor Jami Carpenter will be stopping at three locations in Upshur County to offer tips, tricks and truths about money management, credit and setting yourself up for financial success.

Jami will be stopping at Upshur Parish House located at 68 College Avenue in Buckhannon from 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, June 5; the Upshur County Public Library located at 1150 WV-20 Road in Buckhannon from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5; and at the Mountain CAP Family Support Center located at 30 East Main Street in Buckhannon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.

All workshops are free and open to the public.

“We wanted to celebrate NeighborWorks Week a bit differently than we have in the past by offering events outside of Randolph County.  This will be a great opportunity for folks in the Buckhannon area and Upshur County to learn more about ways to reach financial success,” said HOC’s executive director Kate Somers. “Jami is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to financial education and will be available to answer questions about credit, budgeting and so much more.”

“My goal with these workshops is that folks leave feeling empowered to reach for their goals – whether that’s homeownership, buying a new car, or just simply learning how to manage their money,” said HOC’s Home Ownership Advisor Jami Carpenter. “There’s so much going on in our individual lives that sometimes it feels overwhelming to know where to start with changing financial habits. So, I hope folks come to these workshops and take advantage of asking all the questions they may have about financial management.”

For more information on these workshops, please call 304-636-9115.

HOC will also be hosting a first-time homebuyer workshop from 11:00 until 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10 at the Lewis-Upshur Community Recovery Center located at 18 Garton Plaza in Weston.

This workshop will highlight the homebuying process, mortgage loan options, homebuying preparation and more.

This event is free and open to the public.
