High school seniors invited to compete for D&E scholarships

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College is making plans for the fall Senator Leadership and Scholarship Day, a special event that gives high school seniors the opportunity to earn dollars for college. Students with at least a 3.0 GPA who have completed their applications to D&E and submitted their transcripts by November 1, 2018, are eligible for invitation to the competition.

One student will be selected to receive a scholarship valued at $38,700 including full tuition, room and board, renewable for four years of attendance based on academic eligibility. Additional awards to be presented are two $10,000 scholarships, four $5,000 scholarships and five $1,000 scholarships. All students attending Leadership and Scholarship Day who attend D&E in the fall 2019 semester will receive a $500 scholarship award.

“This event is such an exciting opportunity not only for our prospective students, but also for our faculty, staff and alumni to get to know the potential of the fall 2019 entering class,” said Director of Admission Matt Shiflett. “We are so fortunate to be able to provide the funding for extra scholarships to the students who are invited and attend the event. Davis & Elkins College is leading the way in making a private, liberal arts education affordable.”

Students vying for the scholarships submit essays and participate in interviews with a panel made up of a Davis & Elkins alumnus or alumna, a current student and a faculty member. They, along with their parents, attend a day-long event that includes a tour of the campus, luncheon and opportunities to meet with D&E leaders.
