KERENS – A huge crowd congregated in the grandstands Saturday evening for the 13th Annual Richard Skidmore Memorial Race at Elkins Raceway.

Tension was high as a $3,000 payout was at stake for the Budweiser Dirt Super Late Model feature race, in memory of the late Richard Skidmore, with an increased payout in all dirt-track racing classes.

The 2023 Richard Skidmore Memorial Budweiser Dirt Super Late Model feature winner was Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont. Hawkins received this same honor in 2021. Cody Rogers, of Spelter, West Virginia, was the 2022 Richard Skidmore Memorial Budweiser Dirt Super Late Model feature winner.

According to a release from Elkins Raceway, Hawkins set an impressive track record Saturday night for the fastest qualifying time of 14.668 around the 3/8 mile.

The victory lane was filled with fans, pit crew, sponsors and family of Hawkins at the conclusion of an impressive and action-packed 50-lap feature race.

The July 22 feature race winners are as follows:

Join Elkins Raceway this Saturday, July 29 for regular racing and a Holbrook on the Hill UMP Modified Special race.

Weather permitting, pit gates will open Saturday night at 4 p.m. with $30 admission. General admission to the grandstands begins at 5 p.m. with $15 admission. Children aged 11 and under are free in general admission. Hot laps will begin at 7:30 p.m.
