Glenville, WV – Actors in Glenville State College’s theatre program are preparing for their upcoming play “Doctor Faustus.” The play will be presented on Monday, November 4, Tuesday, November 5, and Wednesday, November 6 in the Heflin Administration Building President’s Auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The play is a modern language retelling of the medieval Faustus story. Faustus is a good man in the beginning, mostly working with plague victims. Those he cannot cure he comforts until they pass on. His problem is that he wishes to know and experience everything the world has to offer. He sells his soul to Mephistopheles, a lying demon, to get the experience he craves.
The cast includes: Andrew Mattox as Dr. Faustus, Robert Knicely as Wagner, Faustus’s servant, Sonya Bennett as Mephistopheles, and Isabel Morris as Helen of Troy. The performance is being directed by Logan Saho as partial fulfillment of the CART 493 course, Performance/Production Practicum. Alex Wemm is serving as stage manager, set, sound, and props were designed by Saho and Mazie Elliott, lighting is by Jasmine Tarman, and Dr. Jonathan Minton is the sound operator.
General admission is $5.00 and GSC students are admitted for free. Tickets are available at the door. The play is rated PG-13, Parents Strongly Cautioned. The performance is not intended for children.
