Greenbrier Environmental Group named 2025 Redevelopment Partner of the Year

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The New River Gorge Regional Development Authority has named Lewisburg-based Greenbrier Environmental Group, Inc. its 2025 Redevelopment Partner of the Year, with company president Matt Ford accepting the award at a recent NRGRDA/West Virginia Hive Showcase and Awards event.

Greenbrier Environmental Group provides environmental compliance, remediation, economic development and project management services, and NRGRDA Executive Director Jina Belcher said the firm’s story began as a WV Hive client whose mission dovetailed with the development authority’s own.

“The company’s story actually started right here — as a WV Hive client — when Matt and his team launched its business with a vision that aligned beautifully with our own: to help communities reclaim, clean up, and reimagine problem properties into assets that support long-term growth,” Belcher said. “And from that beginning, they have become one of the most trusted and strategic partners in redevelopment work across the entire New River Gorge Region.”

Belcher said GEG has worked on countless brownfield and cleanup projects across the region, often the most difficult ones. “They bring expertise, creativity, and a can-do attitude that makes even the most daunting project feel possible,” she said. “But what makes GEG truly exceptional goes beyond their technical skill. It’s who they are. They give back — as a company and as individuals. They show up with integrity. And they care deeply about the communities they serve.”

Belcher pointed to the Hinton Ice House cleanup as a signature example, describing a moment when the project was running out of time. “When time was running out and we needed all hands-on deck, Matt didn’t just oversee the project — he rolled up his sleeves and literally stepped in to stretch barrier across the impacted lot to help get it across the finish line,” she said. “That is the definition of a partner. That is the definition of commitment.”
