Governor Patrick Morrisey is inviting Mountaineer fans of all ages to lace up their shoes and show their WVU pride at the Backyard Brawl Mountaineer Mile, a one-mile walk celebrating the lead-up to the WVU vs. Pitt football game.
“This is a great opportunity to come together, get some exercise, and show our West Virginia pride before one of the biggest games of the year,” Morrisey said. “I encourage everyone to come out, walk the mile, and cheer on the Mountaineers!”

When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025
Where: WVU tailgating lot — entrance at the Football Hall of Traditions, Milan Puskar Center (commonly known as the Silver Lot), Morgantown, West Virginia
Route: A one-mile loop encircling the WVU Stadium
Morrisey welcomes WVU fans to rally together as part of the first game-day Mountaineer Mile. As part of the event, participants will have the chance to enter a drawing for two tickets to the WVU vs. Pitt game, courtesy of WVU Athletics. Entry forms will be available at the start of the event, and WVU President Michael Benson will draw the winning ticket immediately following the walk. Participants must be present to win.
The event is free and open to the public. Early arrival is encouraged.
