Golf Bucs down Lewis County and Liberty in 2022 debut

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers opened up their 2022 season in fine fashion in a tri-match with Lewis County and Liberty and the Stonewall Resort Tuesday evening.

The Bucs fired a 193, three strokes ahead of runner-up Lewis County who carded a 196. Liberty did not field a complete team.

Tucker Burr and Parker Lockwood led the Bucs in their opener with both golfers carding 47s.

Easton Perkins checked in with a 49 while Brayden Hamer shot a 50.

Non scorers for the Bucs were Jaden Westfall with a 54 and Jevon Westfall with a 57.

Lewis County was led by Wyatt Burns with a 45.

Liberty’s Jace Lancaster earned low medalist honors with a 44.

“We didn’t play up to your expectations, however we pulled it out,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “Playing our rivals in Lewis County added to our motivation and nerves, but I felt we showed some early season character. It’s always great to start a season.”

The Bucs were slated to be back in action Wednesday hosting North Marion, Bridgeport, Parkersburg, Lewis County, East Fairmont and Robert C. Byrd at Stonewall.

Following that, they will hit the links again next Wednesday in the Buccaneer Invitational at Stonewall with Bridgeport, Morgantown, Preston, Brooke and University
