BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon Community Theatre will bring Greek mythology to life this weekend in a fast-paced, comedic production of “The Iliad, The Odyssey and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less.”
“It’s literally the Iliad, the Odyssey and all Greek mythology in 99 minutes or less. We have a timer,” cast member Dalton Earls said.
The show blends humor, audience interaction and a modern twist on classic myths.
“It’s a very self-aware play,” cast member Justin Grow said. “We really try to teach you about Greek mythology.”
Despite its comedic approach, the cast said the production still captures the essence of the original stories.
“It’s weird how it manages to touch accurately on all the ridiculousness of all the myths and legends of Greek mythology. Even the stuff that contradicts itself is in there, so it really gives you a full picture in a fun way,” Grow said.’
Each performer takes on multiple roles throughout the show, bringing a wide range of characters to life.
“I play characters like Hephaestus, Agamemnon, a drunken man at one point, and a whole bunch of other characters,” Earls said.
“I am male two, and that is announcer, Hera, Apollo, Hades, Prometheus, Ares, Thor, Odysseus, Hector,” Grow said. “You’ll see all of them tonight, or at least most of them.”
Cast member Lisa Laxton said she also takes on a variety of roles.
“I play such roles as Hermes, Paris, Diomedes, Jason and a whole bunch of Trojans,” she said.
“It really is a good show,” Earls said. “It’s for everyone.”
Performers said audiences can expect an engaging and entertaining experience.
“I think people should come watch it because it’s a funny show, and you might leave learning something. If you’ve got a free afternoon or evening, it’s a great way to spend it,” Earls said.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26; Friday, March 27; and Saturday, March 28, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 29.
Tickets are available online at onthestage.tickets or at the door.
