GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Glenville State University Athletics is excited to announce the Waco Oil & Gas Shootout between West Virginia University men’s basketball and the Pioneers on Friday, October 23, inside the Waco Center.

“There are some tremendous historical links between Glenville State University and WVU. Rich Rodriguez, Rick Trickett, Tony Gibson, Joe Mazzulla, Leland Byrd, Justin Oney…the list is long,” Glenville State Athletic Director Jesse Skiles said. “With the outstanding squad Coach Hodge has put together going into Big 12 play this year, and the squad Coach Bolen has put together here in Glenville, there is a lot of excitement surrounding both programs. We are honored to serve as host for this event.”

GSU is coming off an 18-12 season in 2025-26, the highest win total for Glenville State since the 2014-15 campaign. Bolen, in his fourth year, brings back an experienced group of veterans and an exciting group of newcomers, including Point Park transfer Kaden Warner, who averaged 14.4 points per game a year ago.

“We’re excited to be playing them and we know what kind of freshman and portal class they’ve brought in. It’s a feather in the cap for Glenville with WVU choosing GSU to play in an exhibition,” Pioneers head coach Bob Bolen said.

The Mountaineers went 21-14 last year, capping Ross Hodge’s first year by winning the College Basketball Crown. Fans will get their first look at the 2026-27 Mountaineers in the Shootout, with a roster that includes five-star guard Miles Sadler, four-star Georgia Tech transfer Mouhamed Sylla, four-star Butler transfer Finley Bizjack and four-star transfer guard Joson Sanon.
