Gerald Vernon Steed

Gerald Vernon Steed, 82, was born October 22, 1937, in Albuquerque, N.M. to Alvin Vernon Steed and Fern Borup Steed. He passed away December 5, 2019.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Darnall Steed. They were married June 16, 1960 at Saint John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Albuquerque, N.M.

Surviving children and spouses are Bradley Steed (Amber Steed) of Anderson, S.C., Tara Steed of Morgantown, W.Va., Megan Fay (Don Fay) of Warrenton, Va., and Derek Steed (Katherine Carter) of Burlington, N.C.

He is survived by seven grandchildren, Meredith Marsh, Leah Marsh, Ryan Steed, Michael Steed, Anna Steed, Colin Fay, and Erin Fay, and by step grandchildren Grace Santos, Harriet Santos, Brooke Krulic, Kay Kellett, and Patrick Griffey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Cooper.

Mr. Steed was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and American Institute of Banking. He retired from West Virginia Wesleyan College after 26 years of service.

He was active in the communities where he lived; volunteering with youth soccer, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, a volunteer tax preparer, YMCA Indian Guide program, community conservation projects, Church of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church and was a 4-H All Star.

He enjoyed all sports, good food, his community and friends. He was known for his practical jokes and loved his family and life itself.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration with Father John Valentine officiating.
