George S. Dawson

George S. Dawson, 84, of French Creek, WV passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. 

He was born on May 21, 1937, in Bergoo, WV, a son of the late Howard Wallace and Dulcie Ellis Dawson.   On August 6, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara McLaughlin Dawson who survives. Also, surviving are three sons:  Steve Dawson and wife Monica of Hurricane WV, John Dawson of Richmond, KY, and James E. Dawson and wife Dawn of Bridgeport, WV; five very special grandchildren: Drew, Arionna, Lindsay, Katie, and Michael. One very special great-granddaughter Kennedy, and one sister Patricia Strott of Salisbury, MD.  and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Gene Dawson and Howard Dawson and nine sisters: Joan Groves, Waneta Grimes, Lois Clark, Evelyn Hauser, June Swecker, Alta Bargeloh, Doris Coffman, Barbara Dawson and Alda Dawson.                        

George was a press operator at Moore Business Forms for many years and enjoyed hunting, farming, gardening and riding his four-wheeler. He attended the Way of Holiness Church.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — the funeral hour at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating.  Private graveside services for the family will follow at the Rock Cave Cemetery.

The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of George to The Way of Holiness Church at 2337 Old Weston Rd., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
