Gary Eugene Lantz

Gary Eugene Lantz, 71, of Philippi, W.Va., died Thursday, January 16, 2020, at his home.

He was born January 30, 1948, in Upshur County, W.Va., a son of the late Delmar Pete and Evangeline Tallman Lantz.

On March 5, 1977, he married Nancy Summerfield who survives of Philippi.

Also, surviving are one son, Bob Sherwood and wife Sharla of Gilmer County, W.Va.; three grandsons, Andrew Sherwood of Gilmer County, Bob Sherwood, III of Buckhannon and Brandon Paul Jones of Gilmer County; two granddaughters, Destiny Akers and husband Tyler of Volga, W.Va. and Cierra Sherwood of Gilmer County; two great-grandsons, Maverick and Lincoln Akers both of Volga; one brother, Michael Lantz and wife Bonnie of Buckhannon; one sister, Shirley Tenney of Summersville, W.Va. and special friends, Terry Thrasher and Dave Lesson and wife Lori all of Philippi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn Rohr and an infant brother, Jimmy Lantz.

Mr. Lantz was a Mechanic. He loved to work on cars, trade cars, enjoyed camping and was a Christian by faith. Mr. Lantz was a member of the French Creek DAV Chapter 36.

Friends will be received Friday, January 17, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Lanham and the Rev. Junior Harris officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Philippi. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct full Military Honors at the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
