BUCKHANNON – A free, all-ages rock show featuring three local bands is set for March 14 at the Colonial Arts Center.
The lineup includes A.M.D., Waking Under Water and Wish Awake, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
“I recommend people get there early; it’s a free show for all ages, and we’re expecting to sell out,” A.M.D. member ‘Todd Drainage’ said. “We did a similar show last year, and we only had about 20 spots left, so hopefully we are completely full this year.”
Drainage said the show is a family-friendly event where people can enjoy music without some of the rowdiness that comes with other rock shows.
“Last year, Bryce O’Loughlin, who is part of the Colonial Arts Center, organized this local music night in Buckhannon, where he was getting sponsors to do a monthly show,” Drainage said. “It’s such a nice venue where we get all ages to come and experience a free rock and roll show in a nice, controlled setting. There’s no riff-raff there; it’s a good place to bring your parents. We’re going to have all ages come and actually see a show they probably wouldn’t ever get to see, because they would think, ‘Oh, some of these places are bars or whatnot.’”
Drainage said Wish Awake, from Elkins, will open the show.
“They’re good friends of ours. Bryce wanted to have an acoustic act open up the show, so that’s going to be a theme. He’s looking for acoustic acts to open up the show, and then bigger rock and roll bands that have a connection to West Virginia or Buckhannon,” Drainage said. “They are also looking for sponsors.”
He said he was happy to be on the same bill as Waking Under Water because they were one of the first bands he saw live.
“A lot of people my age remember them. I remember seeing them when I was 14 or 15,” Drainage said. “Some of these kids who are going to be watching us — it’s like everything has come full circle. Waking Under Water was one of the first bands I ever got to see, and now we may be one of the first bands these kids get to see.”
This show is sponsored by the GreenEggs Foundation, a non-profit that helps children find a passion for the arts by creating new programs and hands-on experiences.
