Freda Janice Fitzgerald, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, October 29, 2023, at her home.
She was born September 2, 1937, in French Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Theodore O. Carpenter and Maude Alderman Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bettie Rose, Georgena Hosaflook and Mary Janssen.
She is survived by twin daughters, Marilyn Fitzgerald-Hyde and husband James of Charlotte, NC and Marlene Chidester and husband Carl of Rock Cave, WV; one son, Boyd Melvin Fitzgerald Jr. of Buckhannon, WV; two grandsons, Carl Chidester II of Rock Cave, WV and Bradlee Chidester and fiancé Amy Jackson of Frenchton, WV; three granddaughters, Carlene Chidester and companion Isaac Talbott of Buckhannon, WV, Tessa Cutright and husband Chester of Buckhannon, WV and Andra Rowan and husband Jake of French Creek, WV; eight great-grandchildren, Garrett and Madison Cutright of Buckhannon, WV, Cole and Aubrey Horner, McKinleigh and Laine Rowan all of French Creek, WV, Braylee Chidester of Frenchton, WV and Iris Chidester of Rock Cave, WV; one sister, Bonnie Hinkle of French Creek, WV; two brothers, Robert Carpenter and wife Diann of Buckhannon, WV and Roger Carpenter and wife Cindy of French Creek, WV; several nieces and nephews and their families; her beloved dog, Gracie and cat, Lacie.
Janice was a 1956 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. She was employed by Home Hardware Inc. for 30+ years until its closing in 2006. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and working puzzles.
In honoring her wishes, Janice was cremated. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Bethlehem Cemetery in French Creek, WV.
