The Fred Brooks Garden Club marked Arbor Day by planting two trees at the Harley Brown Rotary Park on South Florida Street in memory of two members, Sue Wilfong and Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Weimer, who recently passed away.
The tree planting ceremony brought together club members, family representatives and city officials. Two trees were donated and planted by representatives from First Energy, including Scott Vandall and Bruno Chidester.
Libby Randall spoke about Weimer during the event, and Wilfong’s husband, Burton, shared a few words about his late wife. Randy Sanders, representing the city, also addressed the group.
The ceremony was attended by a number of individuals connected with the club and the families being honored.
