Five deaths, 246 new COVID-19 cases reported in West Virginia on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 247 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 67-year old female from Kanawha County, a 69-year old female from Kanawha County, a 94-year old male from Harrison County, a 58-year old male from Doddridge County, and a 67-year old female from Mercer County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., September 25, 2020, there have been 535,018 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 14,953 total cases and 330 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Friday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Summers, Tucker, Tyler, Wayne, Wetzel and Wyoming counties.

The current DHHR tally for Upshur County does not match the number being reported by the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department because the state did not include three cases reported locally during the week of Sept. 14.

A record 3,655 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 10,968 people have recovered and 330 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.53%.
