The West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association’s annual fall bus tour heads to Southwest Virginia on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9–10, giving participants a look at the region’s cattle industry, its farming operations and a chance to network with fellow producers and industry professionals.
Scheduled stops include No Business Cattle LLC, a 1,200-head confinement backgrounding operation; Copenhaver Brothers Farm, a sixth-generation stocker operation owned by current NCBA president Gene Copenhaver and his family; Smithfield Farms, an eighth-generation cow/calf operation managed by Andy and Kim Smith; and Stuart Land and Cattle, which the association describes as the oldest operating family-run cattle farm in the country.
The $300 per-person registration covers transportation, lodging and meals. Buses pick up at Jackson’s Mill, 160 Jackson Mill Road in Weston, and at Tamarack, 1 Tamarack Park in Beckley.
The original RSVP date was Sept. 10, but the association said Sept. 18 that a few seats remain. To reserve one, contact Kevin Shaffer at kevins@wvfarm.org as soon as possible. Payment can be mailed to WVCA, 62 Farm Bureau Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Sponsors include Farm Credit, Ironsides Animal Health and Crystalyx.
