Buckhannon’s Veterans Day Parade moves to the Saturday before the holiday this year, November 7, a change organizers said the veterans requested in hopes of a better turnout. The city’s Consolidated Public Works Board approved the date.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. It lines up at the Charles W. Gibson Public Library and travels Main Street to Spring Street, ending at Jawbone Park.
Jim Valenson of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival board told the Consolidated Public Works Board that lineup would be at 9:15 a.m., with the street closed by 9:30 a.m. Upshur County 4-H’s flyer for its members gives a 9:30 a.m. lineup near the Gibson Library. Mike Wallace’s Oct. 30 announcement confirms a 9:15 a.m. lineup at the library on East Main Street.
All veterans are invited to ride the American Legion float, according to Wallace’s announcement. A ceremony honoring area veterans and their families follows the parade at Jawbone Park.
