LUCAS, WVU Medicine’s mobile lung cancer screening unit, is visiting Upshur County to offer low-dose CT scans. Screenings are billed to private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, and uninsured West Virginians who meet the screening criteria can be screened through grant funding and donations. A physician’s order and insurance pre-authorization are required, and appointments must be booked at least 14 days ahead. LUCAS is a service of WVU Hospitals and the WVU Cancer Institute and travels the state, focusing on rural areas with little or no access to lung cancer screening. The unit is at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 304-473-2305 for an appointment.
