The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection holds its Adopt-A-Highway Fall Statewide Cleanup on Saturday, September 26, and is taking registrations now.
Individuals, groups and organizations can sign up to pick up trash along most state-maintained roads. The program supplies garbage bags, work gloves and safety vests, and hauls away what volunteers collect. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old.
One-time cleanups are encouraged but have to be registered. Groups must register by September 17 and should tell their county Division of Highways garage if they need supplies, which can be picked up during normal business hours at the local DOH garage.
To register, call 1-800-322-5530 or email dep.aah@wv.gov. Callers who reach the Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan voicemail should leave a name, phone number, group name, cleanup date, number of participants and the county where the adopted road is located.
