Evelyn Winkler

Evelyn Winkler, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Holbrook Healthcare Center.

She was born October 12, 1929, in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Willie and Francis Tenney Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Winkler; two brothers, Bradford & Garnet Russell; and four sisters, Myrtle Kelley, Opal Harper, Rita Zirkle, and Della Hoover.

She is survived by two brothers, Grover Russell of Buckhannon and Nelson Russell and wife Mary of Queens, WV; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Jackie McAtee Herman and husband Tom of McMurray, PA, and their children: Aaron Herman, wife Cassandra and son Noah Herman of Bethel Park, PA; Adam Herman of McMurray; Catherine Herman of Waynesboro, PA; and Sean Herman of Ukiah, CA.

Mrs. Winkler was a nanny and housekeeper who cared for the McAtee children for over 22 years. She had a close bond with Jackie and her family, and she loved and regarded Jackie as a daughter, Tom as a son-in-law, and their children as her grandchildren.

She previously resided in the Buckhannon Manor Apartments for 33 years where she loved to play cards and dominos, worked as a Senior Companion, and was affectionately known as Winkie. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Buckhannon. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary 3663.

Friends will be received, Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM with Rev. Brad Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Lumberport Lion’s Cemetery in Lumberport, WV.
