Eugene Charles Suder

Eugene Charles Suder, 87, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1932, in Upshur County, W.Va., a son of the late Alva Monzel and Virginia Ruth Williams Suder.

On March 13, 1954, he married his 1st wife, Helen Louise Suder who preceded him in death on August 12, 1997. On September 5, 1998, he married his 2nd wife, Mary Louise McCord who preceded him in death on May 9, 2012.

Also, preceding him in death are one stepson, James McCord; two brothers, Carroll and Alva Suder and two sisters, Wilda Morrison and Myrtle Marteney.

He is survived by one daughter, Jeannie Hyre and husband Randy of Buckhannon; two sons, Charles Suder and wife Gina and Alan Suder and wife Christy all of Buckhannon; two step daughters, Mary Roessing and husband George and Delores Tenney and husband Frank all of Buckhannon; one step son, Roger McCord and wife Cheryl of Omaha, Neb.; five granddaughters, Channing Ash and husband Curtis and Rhianna Miller and husband Chris all of Morgantown, W.Va., Shadie Abel and husband Levi and Ginny Suder and fiancé Jerrad Riffle all of Buckhannon and Addison Lamb of Ohio; three grandsons, Adam Suder and wife Keshia,  Alex Suder and fiancé Hannah Swecker and Riley Lamb all of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Braelyn Nicholson of Morgantown; one great-grandson, Max Ash of Morgantown; one brother, Robert Suder and wife Evon of Buckhannon; three sisters, Vera Toot of Ohio, Ruth White and husband Steve of Grafton, W.Va. and Linda Murphy of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Lois Serrine and husband Gary Mallonee of Buckhannon; one brother-in-law, Carl Crowl of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Suder served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home he began his career in Upshur County. He dedicated 48 years to public service. He held the following positions: city patrolman, city recorder and treasurer, deputy sheriff, 12 years as sheriff, 14 years as magistrate, senior status magistrate and 6 years as county commissioner.

Mr. Suder was a member of South Buckhannon Mission Church, the River Church of Christ and Lorentz Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Gideons International, the Upshur County Farm Bureau, the Moose Lodge 598, the Franklin B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, the West Virginia Sherriff’s Association and the NRA.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and farming and looked forward to his Wednesdays at the Buckhannon Stockyard.

His children would like to thank their extended family, Eugene’s caregivers and Hospice Care for the love and support during the last two years.

Friends will be received Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the South Buckhannon Mission Church. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi, W.Va. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office and the Buckhannon City Police participating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the South Buckhannon Mission Church, the River Church of Christ or the Frank B. Barlett Post 7 American Legion.
