Emily “Bonnie” Lane Strader

Emily “Bonnie” Lane Strader of Morgantown, WV passed into the presence of her heavenly father on November 13, 2024 at age 94. She died of pancreatic cancer.

Bonnie was born on December 12, 1929 to the late Osborn Gay Lane and Gladys Sabina Douglas Lane. She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Stewart Strader, Sr. who had proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by sons: Steven and Perry Strader; and grandson Stephen Michael Dalton.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter Jeanne (Dalton) Strader, son Rev. William “Bill” Stewart Stader, Jr. (Doris); sister: Vera Hull; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was born and raised in Upshur County, WV with many delightful memories from her childhood, living on the family farm. In the summers she would stay with her half-sister Leola South in Missouri.

Bonnie met the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a teenager. She was actively involved in church attending Johnsons Chapel UMC for many years, Community UMC and finally Halleck Non-Denominational Church. She served as teacher, lay speaker and was on several committees and boards. She graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1947. On August 15, 1947 she married “Bill” Strader, Sr. and they celebrated 67 years together. Bill was a WV State policeman before becoming the security director of WVU. She was a very strong woman with a terrific mind.

Bonnie retired from a fulfilling career at the Kennedy Youth Center. In their retirement years Bill and Bonnie traveled the United States in the RV, spending many winters in Florida.

A memorial service will be held at Halleck Non-Denominational Church, 2863 Halleck Road Morgantown, WV 26508 on Sunday, November 17 at 1:00pm with Pastor Marshall Woods and son Rev. Bill Strader officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halleck Non-Denominational Church Building Fund, at 2863 Halleck Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Bonnie’s family would like to give a special thank you to WVU Hospice workers and also to the ladies from the Halleck Non-Denominational Church, Community UMC and Johnson Chapel for providing the meal.
