Dorothy P. Lower Casto

Dorothy P. Lower Casto, age 90, a lifelong resident of Buckhannon, passed from this earthly life on Monday, October 10, 2022, at her home.

She was born on February 12, 1932, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Theresa Poling Lower.  She was the last surviving of her siblings, having been preceded in death by sisters:  Thelma and husband Tom Lloyd, Vecie and husband Jack Snyder, Dora and husband Harry Karickhoff, Mary and husband Charles Snyder, and Rita and husband Buck McClain; and brothers:  Joy Lower and wife Ruth and Ernest Lower and wife Betty.  In 1945, she married Kyle L. Casto, who also preceded her in death in 1990.  In 1975, she was preceded in death by her son Ronald and daughter-in-law Charlotte.  She is survived by one son R. Keith Casto of Buckhannon and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a Christian by faith and attended Mt. Hope UMC for many years until her health precluded her attendance.  Dorothy was a homemaker, an avid reader, and a passionate gardener, but her favorite pastime was visiting the scenic and remote areas of West Virginia to hike trails and identify wildflowers.  She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to West Virginia Home Health and Hospice for the gracious care given to Dorothy.

By her request, no funeral service will be held.  Graveside services and interment will be held at the Upshur County Memorial Park on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Junior Harris officiating.

Online condolences may be extended to the Casto family at www.heavnerandcutright.com  The Casto family entrusted the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with the arrangements.
