Dorothy Jean VanHorn

Dorothy Jean VanHorn “Grandma Dot,” age 73, of Buckhannon, WV, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

She was born September 1, 1950, in Big Isaac, WV, a daughter of the late Wayne Bennett and Areta (Sue) Perrine Burnett. On September 12, 1975, she married Ronald Russell VanHorn who preceded her in death on September 20, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nicholas Snyder and Nathaniel Winneberger.

She is survived by two sons, Richie Snyder and wife Dawn of Bangor, PA and Ronald Snyder of Buckhannon; three daughters, Tina Steuer & husband Robert of Stroudsburg, PA and Tammy Snyder and June Edwards & partner Ben Nolan all of Buckhannon; one son-in-law, Floyd Edwards of Pittsburgh, PA; eleven grandchildren, Tyler VanDoren of Edison, NJ, Kiona Vanhorn of Beckley, WV, Makayla Edwards & fiancé Traeton Long of Buckhannon,  Monea Edwards and fiancée Tonya Jamison of Buckhannon, Alexxis Harris and Donnie Debarr of Buckhannon, Camilla Snyder of Weston, WV and Tristian Neighburgur  of Weston, Mckenna Snyder of Buckhannon, Crystal Steuer and fiancé  Mike Hoven, Faith Steuer, Richard Snyder III, and Justin Snyder; 17 great-grandchildren whom she loved so much and were the light of her life,  Aiden Courtney, Kadeen Edwards, Zae`ron Tyler, Karter Edwards, Za`mani Tyler, Kali Edwards, Kyezlynn Edwards, Zoe Tyler, Zailynn Debarr, Zaykius Debarr, Lyric Snyder, Liam Snyder, Easton Snyder, Zane Snyder, Kilee Steuer, Aiden Steuer and Peyton Steuer; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and close friends, Terry Sandt, Mike Crawford, Zach Crawford, Thomas Suder, Ricky Gibson and Anna Linger.

Dorothy attended South Buckhannon Mission Church and was a home health nurse.

Friends will be received Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3 PM with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. In honoring Dorothy’s wishes, she will be cremated following the services.
