Representatives from Vandalia Health Broaddus Hospital and the Barbour Healthy Communities Collaborative (BHCC) presented a check for nearly $18,000 to the Tucker Community Foundation (TCF) to establish the Barbour Healthy Community Fund. This fund underscores Broaddus Hospital’s and BHCC’s commitment to fostering a healthier community and was established to support initiatives to increase physical activity; enhance nutritional health and well-being; and improve access to health care services for the citizens of Barbour County.

“We are proud to support the Tucker Community Foundation and their invaluable work in improving the well-being of our local communities,” said Dana Gould, Chief Administrative Officer for Broaddus Hospital. “The Foundation plays a crucial role in funding programs that address a range of community needs, from health care access and education to economic development and social services. This Fund will help strengthen these efforts, ensuring residents have access to essential resources and programs that improve quality of life.”

The BHCC was formed in 2014 following a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) that identified key health issues facing residents of Barbour County, including access to care, behavioral health, drug and alcohol abuse, physical activity and nutrition, public health education and tobacco use. This collaborative of local health care providers, clinics, hospitals and community organizations has a shared goal of enhancing health and wellness opportunities for the community.

Together, Broaddus Hospital and the BHCC have successfully implemented several key health initiatives and community outreach programs including a wellness resource guide, community health fairs, community bike rack installation, support for training of local drug dogs, and physical activity opportunities for the youth of Barbour County. This Fund will be available to further similar initiatives within Barbour County.

Monies from the Barbour Healthy Community Fund will be available for grant requests beginning in 2026. Funding applications can be submitted on the Tucker Community Foundation’s website at TuckerFoundation.net.
