DHHR reports two new COVID-19 cases in Upshur County on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 120 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including two in Upshur County.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 91-year old female from Kanawha County and an 80-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., September 23, 2020, there have been 525,236 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 14,504 total cases and 319 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Wednesday in Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne and Wood counties.

The current DHHR tally for Upshur County does not match the number being reported by the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department because the state did not include three cases reported locally during the week of Sept. 14.

About 3,464 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 10,757 people have recovered and 319 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.35%.
