Update: Four new Upshur County COVID-19 cases reported Thursday by health department

The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department reported four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in a press release posted at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

“Twelve cases are currently active,” according to the press release.

The release does not say if the new cases are related to the outbreak at the Upshur County Courthouse. Read about Monday’s emergency meeting of the Upshur County Commission here.

Even with the new cases, Upshur County should remain yellow on the state’s county alert map.

Earlier in the day, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 209 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including one in Upshur County. The four cases reported Thursday by the health department will be included in future DHHR updates.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 80-year old male from Kanawha County, a 90-year old female from Kanawha County, and an 88-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., on September 10, 2020, there have been 467,526 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 12,017 total cases and 257 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Grant, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

Calhoun County turned orange on the alert map Thursday.

About 2,856 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 8,904 people have recovered and 257 have died.
