DHHR: 40-year-old woman from Lewis County dies of COVID-19

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 326 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (14), Lewis (1), Randolph (2) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 58 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old female from Clay County, a 79-year old male from Raleigh County, an 83-year old male from Putnam County, a 60-year old female from Cabell County, and a 40-year old female from Lewis County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 6, 2021, there have been 2,230,102 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 133,290 total cases and 2,323 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,984 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 324,983 people have recovered and 2,323 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.56%.

A total of 215,255 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
