ELKINS – As the spring semester winds down for Davis & Elkins College students, anticipation is building for the annual Déjà vu weekend. This year, four days – Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28 – are packed with games, athletic contests, a color run and a new focus on electronic music.

Two dance parties, on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, are planned for the campus community and their invited guests only. The additional slate of activities is open to the public.

“The Friday and Saturday evening entertainment follows the lead of successful electronic music festivals around the world, such as Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Sensation and Ultra Music Festival, and boasts elite DJs and unparalleled production,” said Davis & Elkins College Vice President for Student Affairs Scott Goddard.  

Highlighting the dance party performances are DJ Bonics and special guest DJ Steve Spin on Friday, April 26 and DJ Money and special guest DJ KSwift on Saturday, April 27. Both events are open only to the campus community and their invited guests.

“DJ Bonics and DJ Money are truly impressive, when supported by DJ Steve Spin and DJ KSwift, the stage is set for a great weekend,” Goddard said.  

DJ Bonics is a member of the World Famous Heavy Hitter DJ’s and is the official DJ for Wiz Khalifa (Taylor Gang), playing stages such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Made in America and the UK Wireless Festival. Adding to his long list of television appearances, Bonics also was recently featured on Revolt TV’s “Tour Tales” and “Behind the Cam,” a new Apple music docu-series. 

He also has extensive radio experience on stations in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and now is programming and hosting a show on Minneapolis Minnesota’s Go 95.3. Bonics co-produced official remixes including Flo-rida’s “My House,” Stronger by “Clean Bandit” and Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz.”

In 2014, he was chosen “Mixshow DJ of the Year” for the Northeast from the SIN Awards in New York City and was named as one of the “21 Asian American Musicians You Need To Get Behind Right Now” Buzz Feed (2013).

DJ Money, a Washington, D.C. native, has been a stadium rocking, international traveling DJ for more than 10 years, appearing alongside with rap phenomenon Mac Miller in Australia and Japan, and R&B superstar Raheem DeVaughn throughout South Africa. Currently, working as Wale’s official DJ, he performs in front of crowds from Lagos to Las Vegas, and was part of a team performing at the White House under the Obama Administration on three occasions. 

Most recently, DJ Money joined the 93.9 WKYS Morning Show team as a co-host after working at the stations as a guest DJ on different time slots, while successfully tackling the roles of DJ, producer, creative director, songwriter and A&R. In the studio, he created music with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Fabolous, Asap Ferg, French Montana and Eric Bellinger.

“The Déjà vu Music Festival is celebrating 39 years with days of activities to celebrate spring and the end of the academic year,” Goddard said. “Starting with the ever popular TRONsystem CUBE XL (laser tag) on Thursday and running through the annual favorite Knocker Soccer/Battle Ball on Sunday, there is truly something for everyone.”  

Activities kick off Thursday, April 25 with TRONsystem Cube XL from 8 p.m. to midnight at the plaza outside of Myles Center for the Arts. Sponsored by Senator Entertainment, the inflatable structure accommodates up to 12 players per game. Inside, players can execute their strategy by making moves around various soft obstacles while TRONsystem’s special effect lighting creates an atmosphere similar to Star Wars.

On Friday, April 26, the entire campus community will come together to plant flowers, weed, mulch and freshen up the grounds during the annual Beautification Day. Later, Senator softball takes on Trevecca Nazarene University for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at the Joni Smith Softball Field. Senator Entertainment presents the Déjà vu Music Festival for students at 10 p.m. with DJ Bonics and special guest DJ Steve Spin in Myles Center for the Arts Creative Commons. 

The Davis & Elkins College Art Club will present the annual Color Run/Walk: 5K Run & 2K Walk on Saturday, April 27. Registration begins at 9:30 in The McDonnell Center and the race steps off at 11 a.m. at Allen Athletic Fields. Registration is open at www.aptiming.com/race/isweatrainbows.

The afternoon is filled with athletic contests – a baseball doubleheader against Findlay University at noon at Allen Athletic Fields, and a softball doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. at the Joni Smith Softball Field. The men’s lacrosse team plays Lake Erie College at 1 p.m. and the women’s lacrosse team goes up against Ohio Valley University at 4 p.m., both at Nuttall Field.

Throughout the day, the College will host an Admission Open House for prospective students and their families. 

Music picks up again at 10 p.m. with DJ Money and special guest DJ KSwift in Myles Center for the Arts Creative Commons. The evening is presented by Senator Entertainment.

Events for Sunday, April 28 begin at noon with a baseball doubleheader against Findlay University at Allen Athletic Fields. Nuttall Field will be the site of Knocker Soccer and Soccer 5’s Tournament from 1-4 p.m. Both are presented by Senator Entertainment and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The annual Déjà vu Music Festival serves as an end-of-year celebration for students, leading up to the last week before final exams.
