Dean scores a hat trick for Lady Bucs in 3-2 victory over Lincoln

SHINNSTON – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Harley Dean compiled a hat trick to lead her Lady Bucs to their first win of the season in a 3-2 road victory against the Lincoln Cougars Tuesday evening in Big 10 Conference action.

Dean accomplished the feat no less than on her birthday.

For Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente, he was pleased with how his team had consistency on their attacks against the Cougars.

“I was happy we were able to have more quality possessions in this game which is something we have been working on and will continue to work on,” stated Piacente.

In the back-and-forth game, Dean tallied her first goal in the 17th minute after playing an over the top through ball from Kyleigh Keener.

Lincoln tied the game just two minutes later on an unassisted goal by Eryn Ashcraft just inside the 18.

Dean returned the lead to the Lady Bucs in the 31st minute with a goal from about 30 yards out with the assist going to Rylen Carlyle.

B-U took that 2-1 lead into the break.

Ashcraft deadlocked the game again in the 67th minute taking advantage of a B-U turnover in their own end of the field and scored with a shot just inside the 18.

Dean scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute with an unassisted goal when she beat a defender off the dribble and scored from just inside the box.

Both teams had five shots-on-goal while the Lady Bucs trailed in corner kicks by a 4-2 margin.

The Lady Bucs were guilty of six fouls while Lincoln was called for just two.

Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Kyndal Davis was credited with three saves while Lincoln keeper Marissa Barajas turned away two shots.

Lincoln dropped to 1-2-1 on the year while B-U improved to 1-2 (1-0 in Big 10).

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Thursday at Preston with a start time of 6 p.m.
