Dean Albert Smith, 85, of the Bailey Ridge Community, died Thursday, January 30, 2020, at his home, under the care of his loving family and WV Hospice.
He was born in Czar, W.Va., on November 30, 1934, a son of the late Frank and Fernie Cutright Smith.
On July 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Patricia Duke Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Crystal and husband Mike Frederick of Buckhannon and Kim and husband Rick Wentz of Buckhannon; four grandchildren: Heather and husband Marvin Zickefoose, Heidi and husband Dusty Harper, Stacia Wentz, and Joshua Smith and wife Kelsey; four great grandchildren: Hanna and Levi Harper and Harper and Caroline Smith; one brother Wilbert Smith and wife Sandy of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant son David Smith and one brother Warren Smith.
Along with five others, Dean graduated from Pickens High School in 1953, after which he served in the US Army. He spent his career as an insurance agent, having been employed by Peoples Life.
Dean attended the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Tennerton Lions Club. He loved hunting and fishing and especially playing with his grandbabies.
At the request of the deceased, the body will be cremated.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 2-4 p.m., at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel; a memorial service will begin at 4 p.m., with Pastor Bob Anderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, or the President Donald J. Trump 2020 Reelection Campaign.
