Danny Joe Hinkle

Danny Joe Hinkle, age 73, of the Macedonia Road, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Country Living Personal Care Home in Jane Lew. He was born on October 25, 1950, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Verlin Jay and Kathleen May Beam Hinkle. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Thren and Sue Davis; two brothers: George and David Hinkle; and one brother-in-law Charles R. Kimble.

On June 21, 2002, he was united in marriage to his devoted wife and soulmate Deborah Lynn Ritner Hinkle, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Kelli and husband Mike Dean of Buckhannon, Cynthia Kotol of Buckhannon, Christina and husband Matthew Debnar of Weirton, and Elizabeth and husband Tommy Blakely of Wheeling; one son Nathaniel Lemmon and wife Shawna of New Smyrna Beach, FL; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters: Sandra Kimble of Buckhannon, Patricia Powers of Smithville, OH, and Shirley Powers of Orrville, OH; one brother Richard Hinkle of Parkersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dan was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where he played football. He also played during his time at Potomac State College and Concord University. He received a Masters degree in School Administration from WVU and taught and coached in Harrison County, served as principal at Walkersville and Jane Lew Elementaries in Lewis County, and taught at Ranson and C.W. Shipley Elementaries in Jefferson County before retiring. He was a member of the Macedonia UMC, the WV Educators Association-Retired, the Upshur County Retired School Employees Association, and the Tennerton Lions Club.

He enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies, hunting, camping, traveling, and playing cards with his wife. He impacted countless lives through his years of educating and coaching and will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his wife and family.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Saturday, August 24 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The funeral will be held at the funeral chapel on Sunday, August 25 at 2 PM, with the Rev. Rodney Heckert officiating. Following the services, his body will be cremated and private inurnment will be made at the Heavner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
