Members of Create Buckhannon are just the second organization to be honored with the city's Buckhannon Exemplary Service Testimonial Award at council's most recent meeting in December.

Create Buckhannon named one of the BEST testaments to the spirit of volunteerism in Upshur County

BUCKHANNON – Create Buckhannon was tapped as one of the BEST assets to the Buckhannon-Upshur community at Buckhannon City Council’s most recent meeting Dec. 19.

Mayor David McCauley paid tribute to the efforts of the group to foster a more inclusive and thriving community life by honoring Create Buckhannon with the Buckhannon Exemplary Service Testimonial Award.

Create is only the second group to receive the honor, following Elks Lodge No. 1736, members of which were recognized earlier this year.

“Create Buckhannon through its extensive, eclectic and passionate membership has sponsored numerous projects and events that set Buckhannon apart from all other W.Va. communities, including Festival Fridays held from the end of May through the first of each September, countless improvements in our Jawbone Park, substantial financial aid to our new sound system in Jawbone Park, creation of the Walk of Valor honoring our veterans, assistance in establishing our very visitor-friendly, downtown parking policies and general support for all things that benefit our community,” McCauley said. “Create Buckhannon has helped us all in our community be better and happier in many ways.”

A permanent placard bearing the group’s name will be installed on the city’s BEST Bench in Jawbone Park.

The BEST Award was established in October 2018 to acknowledge the city’s most giving volunteers.

“We all wish Create Buckhannon’s members the very best as they continue to work hard for our B-U community,” the mayor said, reading the award proclamation. “May every resident be mindful of the importance of community service and giving of one’s self and be inspired to give selflessly for the benefit of others.”
