COVID-19 update delayed Monday, dozens of deaths expected to be announced

Although the COVID-19 update published at 10 a.m. daily by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human services has been delayed, it will likely show more than two dozen new deaths, according to Gov. Jim Justice.

Although it’s unclear exactly why the dashboard has not been updated, Justice revealed during his Monday press briefing that 27 new deaths attributed to COVID-19 have been discovered by health officials.

The announcement came just two days after West Virginia reported its highest single-day death toll with 14 deaths on Saturday. Justice said he did not know how many total deaths might be reported in Monday’s update.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Mountain State also continues to surge, with more than 1,300 new cases reported on Saturday and Sunday alone. Both days set new records.
