COVID-19 cases surge again in Upshur County on Wednesday

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Upshur County increased by nine on Wednesday, the largest daily increase in more than a week. A total of 57 cases are currently active.

After slowing briefly, the outbreak in north central West Virginia is also growing again, with Randolph County reporting 13 new cases on Wednesday, while Lewis County reported five and Barbour County had two.

Statewide, West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 394 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR –  a 96-year old female from Brooke County, a 79-year old male from Cabell County, and an 87-year old female from Cabell County.

In Upshur County:

  • One confirmed case was removed from Oct. 30
  • Three confirmed cases were added to Nov. 2
  • Three probable cases were added to Nov. 3
  • Five confirmed cases were added to Nov. 3

Upshur increased to gold on the county alert map and would be orange except for the fact that probable cases are not included in the positivity percentage.

Free testing events are scheduled throughout Upshur County all week.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., November 4, 2020, there have been 803,971 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 25,987 total cases and 472 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Wednesday in Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Clay, Fayette, Grant, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wayne, Wetzel, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 5,663 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 19,852 people have recovered and 472 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.88%.
