Concord University to host first ECAC Esports LAN tournament

Concord Esports is teaming up with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) to host a Local Area Network (LAN) event at Concord University on November 9-10. This two-day tournament will feature up to 32 collegiate teams competing in Rocket League, Street Fighter 6 and the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Eight schools will compete in Rocket League and Call of Duty, with a 16-person hybrid tournament for Street Fighter 6.

According to Concord Esports Director Austin Clay, the tournament will start with a round robin on the first day to determine seeding for Championship Sunday, which will feature a double elimination bracket to declare the champions for all three games. The 32 schools are vying for the ECAC Campus Series trophy and their share of the $3,000 total prize pool across the titles. The event will be streamed on the Concord Esports Twitch channel, with paid admission for spectators at the Concord Esports Arena.

Clay mentioned that universities currently set to attend include Purdue University, Akron University and University of Kentucky. Additional participating universities will be announced on Concord Esports’ social media accounts. Lydia Fister, Assistant Commissioner and Director of Esports for ECAC, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are excited and grateful for Concord University to host our second Campus Series Invitational. This is the best part of the job. We are honored to be able to provide the opportunity for our members to compete in person, this is what it’s all about. We are ready to watch all the action unfold.”

Clay and his Esports Team are enthusiastic about hosting the event. He noted, “Over the past five years, Concord Esports has expanded significantly, growing from an initial 18 students to now 77 students across 13 competitive teams and a production team. This growth has enabled us to expand our facilities, providing the space necessary to host the ECAC Campus Series Invitational on campus. This event marks our largest LAN gathering to date. Our goal is to highlight the unifying power of esports and its capacity to bring people together in competition, especially in Southern West Virginia. We hope this event will inspire high schools, colleges and amateur leagues to consider hosting more LAN events across the state.”
