West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development invites the community to campus on Saturday, Sept. 7 to raise awareness about mental health, concluding with a Suicide Prevention Walk.
The Suicide Prevention Walk is a community-focused event dedicated to raising awareness about mental health. It strengthens community bonds and creates a supportive environment. The event will feature educational sessions leading up to an inspiring speaker and the walk itself. During the walk, participants will collect beads, each symbolizing different aspects of why we walk. These beads will create a powerful visual representation of the importance of raising awareness. The event is hosted by the WE LEAD: Invisible Illness team.
The WE LEAD: Invisible Illness team is dedicated to advocating for mental health and chronic illnesses, as well as addressing the stigma associated with these issues. They offer valuable resources and create opportunities for individuals to find support. Through campus events, the team aims to enhance students’ mental health and raise awareness about invisible illnesses.
“Mental health is an integral aspect of overall well-being,” LouMasi Lott, WE LEAD: Invisible Illness Coordinator, said. “Everyone deserves access to resources and a safe, supportive environment. My hope is that this event not only provides that support but also fosters a stronger, more compassionate community.”
The speaker will begin at 4 PM outside Wesley Chapel, followed by the walk at 5 PM. Educational sessions will start at 1:30 PM and will be held in 30-minute intervals. More information can be found in the registration links below.
