Colonial Arts Center gears up for an uproarious night at May 10 comedy show

BUCKHANNON – Get ready to laugh it up because a comedy show is coming to town next Friday.

The Colonial Arts Center has announced that its first comedy show of the season, featuring headliner Cam Rowe and opener Dustin Cole, is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Tickets cost $20 and are available via the CAC’s website or at City Hall, 70 East Main Street in Buckhannon.

Matoula Hartley, manager of the CAC and Event Center at Brushy Fork, is excited about the event, saying she plans to make it a monthly tradition.

“Comedy shows are just fun,” Hartley said. “You forget everything else that’s going on in the world and everything that’s going on in your life, and I believe laughter is the key to everything.”

“People go to the theater to forget things, right? So, I’m looking forward to seeing these guys and the start of our season,” she added.

The 100-minute show will spotlight headliner Rowe, a stand-up comedian and reality TV show personality from Southfield, Michigan, who was a series regular on the television show “Storage Hunters” and appeared on TRU TV and “Comedy Bang! Bang!”

You can follow him on Instagram at @cambigfellarowe.

Cole, the opener, is known for his physical story-telling style of comedy and has become a sought-after performer on the comedy club circuit, according to a press release from the CAC. Hartley said recruiting more comedic acts is part of her plan to transform the arts scene in Buckhannon and at the CAC, specifically.

“I just want to change the arts scene and the Colonial Arts Center scene by bringing in these comedians and then tribute bands and local bands,” Hartley said. “I’d like to get that place going on Friday and Saturday nights. I’d like to see it packed. That is my goal; that is my dream.”

Hartley is finalizing the details of other upcoming shows.

Concessions, including water, soda, candy and chips, will be available for purchase at the May 10 show. To stay up-to-date on CAC events, you can also follow the arts center on Instagram or Facebook.
