City of Buckhannon seeking coordinator for Buckhannon Volunteer Center

BUCKHANNON – The City of Buckhannon is looking for a new coordinator for the Buckhannon Volunteer Center after former coordinator Casey Gilbert moved into a full-time position.

According to the job listing, the position is grant-funded through June 30, 2020, with the possibility of an extension and will pay $11.54 an hour for 20 hours a week. City of Buckhannon Information Coordinator and Grant Writer Callie Cronin Sams said the position is meant for someone who wants to be involved in the community.

“The volunteer center coordinator is really the face of our volunteer center, and it would be great for somebody who loves to be out in the community,” Sams said. “Some of the office hours would be at City Hall, but also over at the community center and then out at an event, like Festival Fridays or other events, getting the word out about the Volunteer Center.”

Sams said applicants should also be comfortable with a digital platform.

“An applicant should be comfortable with managing our database and utilizing social media to let people know about the Volunteer Center and have that that comfort level with technology, taking photos and videos, because that is key when you’re making media posts.”

On top of being social online, Sams said the coordinator should be social in person as well.

“We’re looking for a real people person because we’re looking for someone who is comfortable in a public setting and going to events and interacting with the people to help them utilize the center’s services,” Sams said.

Some of the volunteer center coordinator’s responsibilities include teaching people how to utilize the database and meeting reporting grant requirements to Volunteer West Virginia.

The job posting made by the city said applicants must be willing to work some weekends for events and have their own transportation. Additional qualifications the city is seeking in a candidate include a bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, journalism, web design, community development or related field or equivalent experience; one to two years of meaningful experience is desired; and a
willingness to submit to a background check and drug testing.

Interested applicants may send a cover letter, resume and three professional references to 70 E. Main Street, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or email callie.csams@buckhannonwv.org postmarked or timestamped by July 12, 2019.
