Important announcements from the City of Buckhannon

Railroad Crossing at North Florida Street Temporarily Closed – The WV Department of Highways has closed the railroad crossing at North Florida Street (next to City Hall) this morning, Wednesday, September 20, for upgrades and it will remain closed through tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, afternoon. The crossing will NOT be passable by any vehicles during these times.

Water Service Interruption for Selected Areas – Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, there is a planned Water Service Interruption for the following areas:
– All of Route 20 South from Garden Fresh Plaza Drive to the Buckhannon-Upshur High School;
– All of Brushy Fork Road from the intersection northeast to Eagle Street;
– All of Eagle Street, Nova Street, Golden Pond Lane, Pondora Drive, and Valley View Drive;
– Spruce Fork;
– Knollwood;
– All of Dear Creek;
– Parkwood Drive;
– Manchester Driver (Trailer Park);
– Mott Drive.

One More Make It Shine Event to Be Hosted By the City Of Buckhannon – The City of Buckhannon will be hosting one more “Make it Shine Event” on Saturday, September 23.  Current subscribers to the City of Buckhannon Residential Waste Collection Service, whose garbage is picked up at their residence weekly, are permitted to dump a maximum allowable amount equivalent to two pick-up truck loads over the entirety of the event so you will need to consider what you (may have) dumped in the first Make it Shine Event Saturday, which was September 9, 2023. If you qualify, you are encouraged to bring the items to the Buckhannon Transfer Station on Saturday, September 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Buckhannon Waste Transfer Station, located at 444 Mud Lick Road in Buckhannon.  Tires will not be accepted at this time. Additionally, items that utilize Freon, such as air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and refrigerators, are excluded from these events.

Upshur County Solid Waste Authority to Hold Free Paper Shred Event – The Upshur County Solid Waste Authority will be holding its Free Paper Shred Event on Saturday, September 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 395 Mudlick Rd. Street Closure Scheduled by the Sanitary Department – The City of Buckhannon Sanitary Department will be performing repairs to a storm sewer collection line that is causing a depression between 21 and 39 North Kanawha Street beginning Monday, September 25.  Due to the depth of the line, poor soil conditions in the area, and safety concerns, this section of North Kanawha Street will remain closed until Thursday, October 5.
