City horticulturist meets with garden club about how to prune and graft trees

The Fred Brooks Garden Club held regular monthly meetings in March and April at the Tennerton United Methodist Church.

The March meeting was a covered dish dinner with members bringing a covered dish and the club providing chicken for all.  The speaker for the evening was club member Carolyn Patterson. Carolyn demonstrated how to create new designs for entry into flower shows. She brought in examples of types of out-of-the ordinary bases for creative flower designs.

The Hostesses for the meeting were Roberta Alsop and Jerri Carpenter.

The April meeting featured Robert Barbor, Buckhannon Municipal Horticulturist, who spoke on how to prune and graft trees. He brought in samples and demonstrated a step by step grafting procedure for club members. He also answered questions on the grafting process.

A discussion of pruning methods and the timing of pruning for different types of trees followed the grafting demonstration.

The hostesses for the evening were Arlene Fumorola and Cindy Phillips.
