BUCKHANNON – Well, Neal Brown’s seat is officially hot again.

I have always been in the mindset if you plan to get rid of a coach, you better have someone ready to take over.

The seemingly popular choice of Mountaineer fans to replace Brown (if and when he is let go) is Jimbo Fisher. If you are one of those people, that’s fine: you are, of course, allowed to have your opinion on the matter, but my question is — why?

I will admit that Fisher is probably the highest profile name the Mountaineers could get as coach, and it might even provide an uptick in recruiting for WVU, now, this is the part I don’t get.

At FSU under Fisher, they had the worst Academic Progress Rate of any Power Five program, and they were on the verge of an automatic post-season ban under Fisher. On the field, during his last season at FSU, they went 5-6. (FSU finished 7-6 that season).

At Texas A&M, a school that has more money and a stronger recruiting base than WVU ever will, he finished the last three years of his five-year tenure with a paltry 19-15 record. Not exactly the stuff legends are made of. As he approaches the age of 59 on Oct. 9, I have to wonder if Jimbo’s best days as a head coach are behind him.

It seems like WVU fans want to live on past glory when it comes to hiring a new coach or someone who has ties to the state. Why handcuff your program like that?

Neal probably has to go, but I don’t think Jimbo is the right person to replace him. And don’t get me started on why Rich Rodriguez isn’t the right person, either.

Now, let’s look at this week’s My Buckhannon standings.

I went a perfect 7-0 while Brian went 6-1 so we are now tied for the year with identical 18-3 marks. Katie and Monica both went 4-3 last week; Katie holds down third place with a 13-8 mark, while Monica is 11-10.

So, I goofed big time two weeks ago when I was tabulating our readers’ picks. I declared Rob Kimble our winner, but Steve Hollen also went 7-0 two weeks ago and actually won the tiebreaker over Rob. So, we will be sending out gift certificates to both readers and my apologies to my old Friday night running mate Steve for the blunder.
