BUCKHANNON – Right off the start, we have had a record number of submissions for our little Scoreboard Showdown contest here, so a big Thank You right off the bat to our loyal readers. We hope to make this version of the Carpenter Crunch Time the best yet.
Let’s just address one of the elephants in the room here at the Crunch Time offices — West Virginia Wesleyan is traveling to Waterbury (Conn.) this Saturday to take on Post University.
Why do I lead with this?
If you haven’t been paying attention, Wesleyan has lost 24 straight games, which, according to my research, is the longest streak across all levels of NCAA football. Just for comparison, the longest streak at Division I is Kent State with a 21-game losing streak.
For Wesleyan, their last win was a 31-30 victory on October 22, 2022, against the now-closed college at Alderson-Broaddus.
Wesleyan has a legitimate chance to end that streak and start the 2025 season on a positive note, and that is because Post has also been mired in some down times with its football program.
Post was picked to finish eighth in the Northeast-10 preseason poll and is coming off a 1-9 season, where they have lost nine straight games since the 2024 season opener. Since the 2022 season, Post is just 2-28 over their last 30 games.
So the time is now for head coach Dwayne Martin and his Bobcats to bring back a victory. LET’S GO BOBCATS!
So just a few housekeeping notes. It will be the same foursome picking games here for the My Buckhannon staff. Yours truly (and the 2024 champ), Brian Bergstrom, Katie Kuba and Monica Zalaznik.
For our readers, we will play seven games each week, with game seven being the tiebreaker.
The deadline to get your picks in is 7 p.m. each Friday night before kickoff of our high school football games. To make your picks this week, please click here.
Now, onto our games this week:
Bridgeport (0-0) at Buckhannon-Upshur (0-0)
As much as I want the best for the Bucs, I think we all know how this is going to turn out. Our Bucs are going to have their day sooner than later, but it won’t be this Friday.
Duane: Bridgeport; Brian: Bridgeport; Katie: Bridgeport; Monica: Bridgeport
Elkins (0-0) at Lincoln (0-0)
With Lincoln now on the B-U schedule, this game will take on double importance for the Buccaneers. Elkins is hoping to build off of their playoff experience from last season, while Lincoln is sort of an unknown quality at this point around these parts.

West Virginia Wesleyan (0-0) at Post (0-0)
See above.
