BUCKHANNON – A belated Happy New Year to everyone!

After a brief vacation and some time off, it’s time to rev up your sports coverage for 2026. But before we get there, we have to put a bow on 2025 and that means putting a wrap on the 2025 football season with a final edition of the Crunch.

Going back to the high school championships, they produced four good games after I complained about the lopsidedness of the semifinal games. Morgantown beating Martinsburg was the biggest shocker of the championship weekend.

On the college front, WVU is experiencing one of the highest number of transfer portals in the country with 30-40 players departing. Every school deals with this but it makes you wonder why so many players don’t want to play for Rodriguez.

While I was/am a Nick Saban fan, it is fun to watch the Alabama fanbase in total meltdown after getting blown out by Indiana. Same for the Ohio State fanbase. Some fanbases just need to be taken down a peg.

And I have to say the college bowls are finally done for. Just kill them off. The CFP has rendered them meaningless with a lot of G5 teams taking up spots. As I type this right now, Rice and Texas State are on my television. As much as we all love football, there is zero reason to watch this game or similar games to it.

In our little contest here, I won the championship in anti-climatic fashion with a seven-game lead. Our final standings looked like this.

STANDINGS (Final)

Name     Week      Overall

Duane     4-3            83-22

Brian        5-2            76-29

Monica   4-3             62-43

Katie        5-2             61-44

Brian put up a good fight but was never able to catch me while Monica held onto third and Katie finished in fourth place.

Our final winner was Mackenzie Michael won our last week going 6-1 winning the tiebreaker against Sandra Kimble on the score of the Ohio State-Indiana game. Mackenzie picked 55 points while Sandra picked 66 as the total score wound up being just 23 points. Congrats to Mackenzie on being our final winner. With the season complete, we will be sending out gift certificates too all of our weekly winners.

Once again, we had a record number of entries and tons of new players this year, so I thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.

With that said, with the start of the new year, you can continue to look forward to the best sports coverage here at MyBuckhannon. Looking forward to a great basketball season.

Until next time, thank you for your patronage!
